Greg’s Message for the Month

The Fires

I want to thank everyone who sent concerned emails about the fires here in Sedona—it was very kind of you. The fires were located in the hills above Oak Creek Canyon.  I feel for those residents there that had to be evacuated.  I lived in the Canyon for two years and it has always been a special place to me.

As always, the media have characterized it as if all Sedona is on fire—truly irresponsible.  They did this two years ago with the rains, saying we were under water!  It teaches you something about the media first-hand and this is why I haven’t watched the news in years.  But I let go of any animosity towards them, it doesn’t serve me.

I have not seen the devastation to the forest yet and that’s why I feel in a place of what I can only describe as numbness about the fires.  I do know that two very special hikes of mine have been swept with fire: Manzanita and The Sound of Music Hike.  These places were part of my rebirth when I moved to Sedona.  I have offered prayers for the Grandfather and Grandmother Tree and Plant People and the Animal People wishing them a good journey.  I understand it will be a month before they open that area to the public and I will go up there and offer a ceremony.

I am not even thinking that my vortexes have been hit, especially The Family of Trees and The Healing Tree.  As my clients know and readers of my column, these are two very powerful places and ones that are dear to my heart.

They closed the Forest this past Friday. This is the first time I have experienced this and, at first, it really threw me.  But instead of getting into a panic, I decided to take it on as challenge.  In the last few days, I have explored and discovered two new vortexes outside of the closed forest.  I am going to write a few stories about this process—watch for them!  I miss hiking and it has made appreciate even more this amazing place I live.

All along the main road here you will see dozens of hand-made signs thanking the firefighters and few places offering free massages for them. That’s Sedona!

As I posted on my home page, I am open and doing the work I am honored to do.  I invite you to come to the Magic Kingdom!

A Ho,
Greg (the Guide)

Recommended Reading

The Wheel of Time by Carlos Castaneda

You will a see new story in my Magic Kingdom Column called The Culture of the Warrior.  The excerpts there are from this book.  Its’ a compilation of quotes from all of Don Carlos’s books.  And also, some interesting insights about  what was going on when he wrote each book in the series.  I have a learned a great deal from this book and if you are fan of his, I recommend it highly.

In each newsletter I thought I would include another quote from my proposed book The Culture of the Warrior.

Recommended Movie

The Bear

A beautifully filmed movie that came out many years ago.  It follows the path of a bear cub after losing his mother.  He meets a formidable male Grizzly who he befriends.  I love this movie and my mother loved it.  I can remember sitting watching it with her—it made her happy.  Like the bears in the movie, my mother was a survivor—this is one of the many gifts she left me—to know how to survive and to keep going—to do what has to be done.  Thank you, Mom.
