Or Spiritual Movies After Your Spiritual Retreat!
(keep the good feelings going!)

I am a child of the movies and my life has been influenced by many great films. My writing all started with the screenplay format. I thought I share with you some of my highest recommendations. I picked these movies for their inspiration

Polar Express!

Truly amazing movie. For two hours I was kid again!

Pay It Forward

A very special movie about the generosity of the human spirit. Kevin Spacey gives another mind-blowing performance. The little boy in it just grabs your heart and doesn't’t let go for two hours. Pick a special night or when you’re down and watch this wonderful movie!

The Big Blue

One of director, Luc Besson’s, first movies. A beautifully shot film about the world of free-diving and the special men who venture into the deep without oxygen. Lots of dolphins in this movie! Who doesn’t like dolphins! Jean Reno is awesome in this

Searching for Bobby Fisher

I have lost count of how many times of how many I have seen this movie about a child chess prodigy and his introduction to the game and his knowledge of the great Bobby Fisher. Ben Kinsely, as always, makes me shake my head in awe. This is a true story! Just wonderful!

Forrest Gump

What is there to say! Watch it once a year. I am always seeing new wisdom in the life of Forest.

Field Of Dreams

I never seem to get tired of this movie. My friends who know my screenplay work say this is the kind of movie I write—I have no words for that incredible statement—I am honored that anyone would think of me in the sentence with this very very special film. Please see it if you haven’t it.

Chariots of Fire

A movie I know that is some way shaped my life. The acting, the theme, the feeling all seem to inspire me to keep writing. And it’s a true story! One man’s relationship and honoring of God and another man’s struggle with his demons. Again, brothers and sisters, please rent this epic film. A Ho.

Big

Anyone who has been out on a vortex experience with me knows how close I am with my inner child spirit. So of course I love this movie!

Chasing Amy

You might wonder why I would recommend this movie. There is some truth in here about giving yourself to another that really penetrated me. Ben Affleck is great in it!

The Bear

A beautifully filmed movie that came out many years ago. It follows the path of a bear cub after losing his mother. He meets a formidable male Grizzly who he befriends. I love this movie and my mother loved it. I can remember sitting watching it with her—it made her happy. Like the bears in the movie, my mother was a survivor—this is one of the many gifts she left me—to know how to survive and to keep going—to do what has to be done. Thank you, Mom

The Thing About My Folks

A heart warming father and son movie starring Peter Falk and Paul Reiser. I learned a lot in this movie about letting go and speaking your truth. Peter Falk blew me away. He is truly an under-rated actor. When the actor John Cassevetes, who was considered an actor’s actor, needed a male counter-part in a film, who did he call—Peter Falk. I don’t if you aware of this but Mr. Falk has only one eye—he didn’t let that stop from him from creating an incredible career in films! See this one, brothers and sister—it will make your heart feel good!

Suggestion!

Here it is! To the Men: On a rainy weekend, take your girlfriend or wife to the video store and say, “Sweetie, whatever four movies you want to watch—we’re watching!”

Why We Fight

A very powerful movie/documentary out on video right now about the reasons behind war.  President Eisenhower in his farewell speech warned that we were heading for a political system controlled and dominated by the “Military Industrial Complex”.  Guess what?  Watch this one and then do something!

An Inconvenient Truth

I am now a permanent fan of Al Gore. It's hard to know what to say about this powerful movie on global warming. Rent it and buckle up--every human needs to see it.

Please check out his site: Climate Crisis

Who Killed the Electric Car

This movie surprised me. I think like many americans, I didn't know what happened to the electric car--now I know.

Check out the Site: Electric Car

Both these movies left me frustrated--the same question I raise in my book, The Woodstock Bridge, "What do you do? What can the individual do?" Time for me to go back and read my own book! How's that for honesty!

Lorenzo’s Oil

A powerful film about the true story of Augusto and Michaela Odone and their son Lorenzo. In 1984 Lorenzo came down with adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

The movie was released in 1992 and stars Susan Saradon and Nick Nolte. This was one of those movies that changed my life—period.  The Ordone’s refuse to accept the verdict of the medical establishment and set off on a search for answers.  They find them, brothers and sisters!  A Ho.

Lilies of the Field

A beautiful movie about faith starring Sydney Poitier. I caught this on TV last month and was brought back to my childhood. I remembered how special this film was to me growing up. It represents simplicity and style in filmmaking that sadly we don’t see much anymore. Mr. Poitier is so good, that as an ex-actor, I just sat back and shook my head in awe at his talent. I want to invite you watch a movie about believing in what’s possible. This one is food for your spirit.

Freedom Writers

This movie just came out on video and stars Hillary Swank. I planned on not liking this movie because it looked like a remake of Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Phiefer. I was stunned at the power of this true story about teaching kids from the projects who are truly growing up in a war zone. Miss G, the teacher, utilizes the terror of The Holocaust to penetrate these bright kids. I spent most of the movie with tears in my eyes. Watch this one, brothers and sisters--inspiring.

Saint Ralph

During the holidays I saw this movie for a second time—it just makes me feel good!  The story is about a young boy trying to understand  how miracles happen.  When his mother goes into coma—he decides that winning the Boston Marathon will create the miracle needed to wake her.  Watch this one, my friends, and be a witness to determination and faith in the unknown!
